Tea has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Whether it was my mum habitually placing a large pot of East Frisian black tea blend on the table or a certain Starfleet captain’s love of a very special liking: “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.” – who knows? Both may have influenced me on the way towards my later career as a professional tea aficionado. Almost 15 years ago, I began studying and appreciating the multi-facetted manifestations of Camellia sinenis more carefully. Of course, there were ups and downs: Surely, the phase of indulging in peach flavoured rooibos infusion can be regarded as the lowest point of my learning curve towards ‘tea’ connoisseurship.
For the past five years I have been tasting, buying, selling and teaching tea professionally; from 2012 to mid-2015 in my role as chief teaist of a specialty tea company founded in Berlin. There I was able to share my knowledge and passion with almost 500 guests attending the tea seminars I conducted. Since June 2015 I have been specialising on corporate events, consulting for the hotel, restaurant and café industry and, of course: my very own range of tea seminars.
